As of now, many pages take on 2 main units, yards and meters. I believe that we should allign to one unit, making data more comparible and easy to analyze. Thus, I have launched a poll to see what this community favors.

I'm new to the forum so if this is the wrong area to post, please let me know. I'm curious to know what the diamond shaped insignia is on my father's forearm in this photo? (USN, WWII) Also, I know he had a Fireman rating, so would the two bars on his wrist denote Fireman 2nd Class?

Any and all help is much appreciated.

Edit: Further research has led me to believe this photo was taken earlier in my father's enlistment as the two white cuff stripes and right shoulder white branch mark appear to be for Seaman 2nd class. But I'd still like to know what the insignia on the forearm is.

I love everything history, but i mainly love WW1 and 2. I like discussing the tactics used by nations and also their stance on the war whether it's Axis, Allies or Communist, you can also probably tell I love the HOI series. Thanks!

Many people think that the atomic bombings were needlessly cruel, but I say they were necessary. Not to avenge pearl harbour or anything, but rather, the atomic bombs saved us from a deadly war of attrition between the US, which would not have just destroyed two of Japan's cities, but leave Japan as a wasteland entirely. There would be overwhelming loss of life on both sides, and this is why the atomic bombings were justified.
