The PaK 44 was an anti-tank gun developed by Krupp specifically to counter the heavier armor of the latest allied tanks like the IS Tank and the Pershing.
Description[]
The PaK 44 could fire 12.8 cm shells at an effective range of up to 3,000 meters. Like other heavy artillery guns, it fired a two piece charge and projectile round that had to be loaded in proper order, making the reload time rather lengthy.
History[]
Prototypes, including some from Rheinmetall Borsig which were based on the 12.8cm flak gun, were delivered in 1944, testing proved the Krupp model to be more effective. The gun had been modified as the PaK 80 and was mounted on the Jagdtiger and the Maus. Before the war ended, a total of fifty-one examples had been produced.
