The Crusader was a very fast and maneuverable tank, taking many of its core qualities from its predecessor, the Covenanter cruiser tank. The type's armor was minimal at best, with a maximum of 49 mm on only the most critical areas of the hull and turret. The armament was slightly better, with a 40 mm Ordnance QF 2-pounder for a main gun and two 7.92 mm BESA machine guns for defense against infantry.[1] While sufficient during the design period, the 40 mm main armament would quickly become outdated and would have to rely on the more powerful 75 mm main gun of the M3 Grant Mk. I that was also in British service.
