Allied Strategic Bombing in Europe, also known as Operation Pointblank in the USAAF, is the history of the use of heavy bombers by the Allies against German targets. The strategic bombing campaign began in 1941 as a response to the first bombing of The Blitz, which escalated British bombing of German cities. The United States entered the air war in 1942, and in 1943, organized the Combined Bomber Offensive with the RAF Bomber Command, which was the night and day bombing of German cities.
