The Brooklyn-class of light cruisers was a class of light cruisers produced by the United States Navy in the late 1930s. Commissioned between 1937 and 1939, these cruisers boasted more firepower than any other US cruiser, with five triple turrets of 6-inch guns, all with a higher-than-normal caliber. They served extensively in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of the war, with several being seriously damaged, but only one was lost. Cruiser designs from then on were based on the design of these cruisers.
