The Des Moines-class of cruisers were three heavy cruisers produced by the United States Navy after the end of World War II. The last class of all-gun cruisers made by the United States, they were the second-largest cruisers in the fleet and had a new design of autoloading rapid-fire 8-inch guns, and a stronger battery of small-caliber AA guns. Twelve ships were planned, but only three were completed. The three ships served their country during the Cold War and one became a museum ship.
