The Flakpanzer 38(t) was a self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle that was used by Germany during World War II.

Description[]

The Flakpanzer 38(t) was based on the chassis of the Panzer 38(t) and as such used the Praga AC engine which was capable of propelling it at speeds of up to 42 km/h. The operational range of the vehicle was about 210 kilometers on roadways. While not particularly fast or tough, the chassis of the Panzer 38(t) was a proven design and was fairly accessible to modification since by the time in the war the Flakpanzer 38(t) was needed, the Panzer 38(t) was all but useless in combat, leaving remaining examples available.

History[]

The development of the Flakpanzer 38(t) began on October 15, 1943 after receiving permission from Hitler to do so. The purpose of the 38(t) was to be an interim anti-aircraft design while the main Flakpanzer IV designs were being created.[1]
