History[]
HMAS Hobart was originally called HMS Apollo and serviced with the Royal Navy until 1938. She was stationed at the Royal Navy's bases in North America and the West Indies. She was renamed to HMAS Hobart by Mrs Bruce, the wife of the High Commissioner for Australia in London. A month later after the renaming ceremony on the 28th of October 1938, HMAS Hobart set sail from Portsmouth, England to Australia. She reached Australia at the end of 1938, just in time for Christmas. In January 1939, HMAS Hobart sailed from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. There she was the flag ship of the 101st Hobart Regatta.
