The Ithaca 37 is a shotgun that was used by the United States during World War II.
Description[]
The Ithaca 37 is a pump action operated weapon. Since it is a pump action gun it is one of the few guns that can be used by both left handed and right handed operators. The weapon has an ammunition capacity of up to eight 12, 16, and 20 gauge rounds.
The standard model featured a total length of about 100 centimeters and a total weight of 3.3 kilograms. An effective rate of fire of 12 rounds per minute from the 4-5 round magazine could be maintained though this was later upgraded to an 8 round tubular magazine.[1]
Variants[]
During the war, the Ithaca underwent numerous minor changes to suit different combat operations and as such featured varying abilities like being able to mount a bayonet or heat shield.[2] One notable examples, the deerslayer although not for military use was given rifle sights.

The shotgun was designed by John Pederson and John Browning. It was marked as the Remmington Model 31 but dew to budget cuts it was replaced by the Remmington 870 which is still being made today. The Ithaca was made mostly to compete with the Winchester model that was very popular at the time, but additionally to supply US troops. Although the Ithaca had not really reached its peak in popularity or production, thousands of models were still made during World War II, supplying US troops. They were also used later during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
