The Mercedes-Benz L3000 was a 4 x 2 truck used by Germany during World War II.

Description[]

The L3000 was powered by a 75 hp, 4-cylinder Daimler-Benz OM 65/4 diesel engine. It was a very versatile vehicle capable of traversing a variety of terrains with ease. The total weight of the L3000 was 3,100 kilograms, and the minimum crew was two, a primary and secondary driver.

Variants[]

Two variants of the L3000 were produced, the L3000A and the L3000S. These vehicles were used in a variety of roles, and the main differences were minor changes to the mechanics and chassis of the original L3000.

History[]

Production of the L3000 began in 1938 and ended in 1943. In that time, over 27,700 vehicles, including the L3000A and L3000S variants, were manufactured. The L3000 saw extensive service in North Africa with Afrika Korps as well as in Greece, France and the Eastern Front, proving itself to be very reliable transport vehicle, alongside the Opel Blitz T3.6S.
