The Netherlands, also known as the Kingdom of the Netherlands (Koninkrijk der Nederlanden) is a country located in Western Europe which borders Germany and Belgium.
Prewar history[]
The Kingdom of the Netherlands was established after the Dutch regain independence from Napoleonic France.[1]
World War II[]
At 10 May 1940 the Netherlands was invaded by Germany alongside France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. After the fall of Netherlands the government in exile retreated to London until the end of the war[citation needed].
At 8 December 1941 The Dutch government in exile declares war on Imperial Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor.[2]
After the Normandy landings the Allies put Operation Market Garden in action with help from Dutch resistance fighters[3].
