The Panzerwerfer 42 Maultier was self-propelled artillery rocket launcher used by Germany during World War II.
It is designed to increase the mobility of the Nebelwerfer and its crews, thus increasing its effectiveness. It served in all fronts until the end of the war.
Description[]
The Panzerwerfer was built on the standard configuration SdKfz 4, and was therefor the same in all respects except an increased weight of 7,100 kilograms, and the addition of ten 150 mm Nebelwerfer 41 rocket tubes on a mount in the rear compartment of the vehicle. The Panzerwerfer was powered by an Opel engine which could propel it at speeds of up to 40 km/h. The total range of the vehicle was 130 kilometers, and 8 mm of armor plate was fitted to protect the crew. While the Panzerwerfer was designed to provide fire support other units from range, and therefor were mainly positioned behind the point of contact. Regardless, the Panzerwerfer was still armed with a 7.92 mm MG 34 or MG 42 machine gun for defense against infantry.
