The Tennessee-class battleships were a class of two battleships produced by the United States Navy during the interwar period between World War I and World War II. They were similar in design to the New Mexico-class of battleships by their four batteries of triple 5-inch guns and a similar speed of 21 knots. After being commissioned, the two ships served in the Pacific Fleet, undergoing training drills and war games. Both ships were at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 when Battleship Row was attacked, leaving California underwater sunken and Tennessee with minor damage. Both ships were repaired and saw combat in the Pacific theater as bombardment ships, until the end of the war.
