The Type 93 was an anti-aircraft machine gun that was used by Japan during World War II.

Description[]

The Type 93 overall looked and functioned very similarly to its counterpart, larger caliber anti-aircraft weapons such as the Type 96 Autocannon. It could fire a 13.2 mm round at a vertical range of up to 4,000 meters. With a total weight of about 42 kilograms and total length of 1.4 meters, the Type 93 was a very big weapon that was quite immobile. To feed the machine gun, the Type 93 used thirty round magazine cartridges.

As such, it was typically mounted on ships and other stationary anti-aircraft positions. Like just about any other piece of anti-aircraft artillery, the Type 93 could just as easily be moved into a position to engage ground targets. The Type 93's design was largely derived from the M1930 Hotchkiss machine gun as the Type 93 was built under license.
