Crowds celebrate V-E Day in the city of Toronto
V-E Day or Victory in Europe Day is the public celebration of the German unconditional surrender on May 8, 1945. (May 9th in Moscow time and thusly referred to as Victory Day). V-E Day marked the end of the war in Europe and subsequently the closing of the Western, Eastern, and Italian fronts. This only left the Pacific War to be fought.
